People hate the smArtist!

I just ran across a website on accident that has a few people ripping on me and my site. It made me laugh, and I wanted to post it here.

Here’s the IndieGamer forums post.

And here are the highlights:

What a shit website. That guy sucks and is full of it.

I just can’t [listen to Jon Jones], because he calls himself the smARTIST. Next!

“smArtist” may be the dumbest name since “Wii”

the term “smArtist” made me cringe. My first thought about what it meant was “Smart A** Artist”. :D

You guys made my day. :)  In all honesty, I am HONORED to be important enough to be criticized! You can’t please everybody, and I’ve been waiting for a while for someone to speak up against me. I’m sending this to all my friends!

It was also nice to see a couple people stick up for me, including good ol’ Gianfranco over at GBGames! Thanks buddy! :)

Does nothing phase you? Or is it only that the mooing of the cattle does not much alter the path of a car speeding past them on the highway?

I think those guys should have read your ‘Marketing for Artists’ — obviously they don’t get the point of smArtist, and in spending so much time talking about they only further your evil plans for world domination. :)

I’ll still check your blog every day :P

  • Jon Jones says:

Brian, haahaha, great analogy. If they’re willing to dismiss my writing on the basis of a well-marketed name, then, well, they’re not really the kind of people I write for. *shrug* Why would it faze me? :)

Eric, shh! Ixnay on the orldway ominationday!

    Dave, aw, thanks dude. :)

Hah, keep in mind those comments were based on your old site. I bet they’d say something else now that you have that pic up at the top.

I find it funny that once someone says something negative, it is very easy for otherwise-good people to join in. Well, maybe not funny. It’s actually kind of depressing. Why isn’t praise contagious in the same way?

“Your game sux!” “Yeah, it sux!”

    “Your game rox!” “…”

  • Jon Jones says:

What, is my monster head up top some sort of value-add that was missing before? hahaha

I know what you mean, though. It’s fun to crap on stuff, but harder to heap praise. Negative inertia is stronger than positive inertia. :)

Hehe… yeah, people discussing your site is nearly always good. My favourite example of this was when a livejournal ring of Harry Potter gay sex-oriented fan-fiction writers wrote a story around me because one of them found a photo of an old bedroom window of mine that captivated them, for some reason. So I wound up with several hundred new visitors and a starring role in a (lengthy) bit of Harry Potter sex fiction.

    Gotta love the internet.

HAHAHA, holy shit, dude! Do you have a link to that? That’s incredible!

  • Dan says:

Now, almost 2 years down the road; Not so bad being compared to Wii, is it. LOl!
