Hey, something I saw on that site you mentioned, there's a book called "Love Leadership", and it is saying exactly that - that the best way to lead is through love and respect. Which backs up my (and many other people's, I'm sure) life philosophies. :)

Cool, love your blog! Thanks for the inspirational links, think I'll get the Rubber Ball book. I'm an animator struggling to get his life and career back on track after depression taking a bit of a toll on my life for the last 6 years. Been reading your posts for a while now and enjoying them, keep up the good work! :)

Insightful as always, Jon.

I've come to feel that the real trick is to act in such a way that you inspire trust and confidence and self-esteem in those around you, and they follow you out of respect and allegiance rather than through fear. Create a system, a machine, that can run itself by harnessing the power and passion of the best that exists inside people.

That's the 2nd trick; the first "trick" is to make sure that people know it's not a trick when you're instilling them with all that self-esteem and responsibility. But, yeah, it gets a lot better results than antagonism.
